Anna Oxa....Samuel Peron
Posted November 01th, 2013
I truly don't think that anyone can doubt my opinion regarding someone's dancing......true or false?!
I am going to be...umm.....true to my word.
I have always admired Anna Oxa....she is an incredible singer. I used to stand in front of a mirror and imitate her with "Donna con te".....and of course as I did with Mango's incredible "Bella d'estate" and Giorgia's silky "Gocce di Memoria".
And I was her biggest fan when she did her first "Fantastico"....now that was a STAR.....charisma, class, sensual and ironic....very young Mina.
Oh....memory Lane "Hello!!"...
I have been reading left and right regarding Anna Oxa and Samuel Peron's performances on the Saturday night television show in Italy, "Dancing with the Stars".... Some judgements have been merciliess.
I started by just looking at their photos while dancing, their facial expressions and chemistry between the two of them........before I attempted to take a peek at one of their performances.
Any "real" dancer can understand by looking at a photo, if someone is good or not....they can come to the conclusion who is talented and who is not.
If you study a certain photo of the beautiful and talented Natalie Portman dancing the "Black Swan", you can see that she has studied rigorously, but is NOT a Prima Ballerina. She is NOT the Black Swan. But, she somehow convinced us that she was.
A genuine dancer would never sway her back when in a tutu, as she did....we aren't talking Luciana Savignano in Maurice Béjart's "Bolero" or anything that the genius George Balanchine would have whipped up.
However, Natalie can dance, of course, without making herself a 'laughing stock' ..... because she has something special and this is a true reason for this Post.
Let's get started with the couple Oxa - Peron.
Samuel Peron is an excellent dancer and at times I wonder why he hasn't become more famous and had juicier opportunities career-wise..... He isn't the hunky good looking lad but has a strong savagely lustful taste to him. It might be the aquiline nose. He seems shy and shrewd when dancing, reserved I might add. I have seen him dance live and believe me, he compliments his partner. It would have been interesting to have danced with him.
Anna Oxa is striking when in any movement whatsoever. She can be simply posing for a magazine cover and could "eat alive" anyone near her. Her makeup, hair and clothing have always been avant-garde and out of this world.....she is totally a Number 1.
So why are people finding fault?
I am convinced that EVEN NOW when "a novità" comes alive, people still get scared. Well, Anna has always been ahead of everyone. She is magical and has a driving force from within.
She probably isn't what Italians want to see "dance" ..... well, the ones watching Saturday night television, that is. She isn't believable to them since she is an A+ singer... (and what a singer!!) ... Or is it because she hasn't always been "simpatica" ?? .....
She has enrichened her look even more with exagerated make up and hair styles, although this has always been her mode. Dressing as an Oriental while doing Paso Doble??!! Maybe she was attempting a double image..... Asia vs. Spain?
I admire her and I understand that she is not homey or reassuring. She is provocative when seducing her prey, which is: the audience. And, this makes the viewers edgy and not at ease.....
She is too sophisticated for Saturday night television in Italy. Years ago when she exploded onto Italian television, she was perfect.....superior to everyone around with her talent and for "being different". But those were different years, carefree with lavish living. Today, in Italy, it is "different".
Anna's success will also be based on her partner, Samuel...and in my humble opinion, they are NOT to be underestimated....
As for the other "contestants" ........ I admire their courage and wit to dance in front of millions of people on live television. I tip my hat to all of them.
