Mr. Burioni, stop Bullying!

Posted May 13th, 2025

Mr. Roberto Burioni, I’m not in the mood for jokes, and I refuse to be bullied any longer.

Hiding bullying behind irony and sarcasm doesn’t make it any less dangerous—or any less violent.

Your deliberate, repeated behavior, inserting yourself into contexts and discussions that don’t concern you with the sole purpose of humiliating, ridiculing, and harming me—exploiting a clear power imbalance—is already despicable when it comes from people with little education or respect for others.

But it becomes unacceptable and shameful when it comes from someone like you, who, by virtue of your public platform, exponentially amplifies the risks that follow.

Because bullying, when fueled by a public figure, has real consequences.

I know what it means to be targeted. I know what it’s like to open my phone and find dozens of hateful emails, insults, even threats.

And I also know I’m not the only one.

There are ordinary people—mothers, fathers, young individuals—who are overwhelmed by the aggression of those who feel entitled to "hate" simply because people dare to ask questions or refuse to passively accept what you say.

And doing this in the name of science is not an alibi—it’s an aggravating factor.

Science has never been about "I’m right, and you must shut up."

Science is dialogue. Science is listening.

If, instead of explaining, you humiliate—if, instead of persuading, you attack—then you are not spreading knowledge.

You are just creating a mob.

And the mob is dangerous.

Because when you give the mob permission to treat others as enemies, as idiots, as people who should be "erased," then what happened to me—and to so many others—happens: insults, intimidation, threats.

And it’s no longer just a debate—it becomes violence.

Because words don’t stay confined to X (Twitter). They have consequences.

And when a person is attacked, humiliated, or threatened just for thinking differently, the blame doesn’t lie solely with those who attack, humiliate, and threaten—but also with those who created that climate in the first place.

What are the reasons for this cynical, surgical takedown of me, Mr. Burioni?

Do you fear me so much that you’re willing to abandon every ethical and moral principle just to silence me forever?

Are you acting on your own, or are you answering to someone else?

And does the professional community you belong to also intend to identify itself with this violent, aggressive behavior toward a woman?

I am not afraid of you—nor am I afraid of the fanatical idiots who follow you.

But I am afraid of what this hatred is doing to our society.

Because when verbal violence is normalized, when digital lynching is justified, we lose something fundamental: respect for others.

And a society without respect is a society that crumbles.

Mr. Burioni, Stop Bullying!!
