Find the difference .... by Dario

I would like to tell you what happened Thursday, March 27th, 2014 here in Hong Kong: I was rather sceptical if I should spread this fact that actually happened or avoid it altogether....in the end I decided to make it public...

Around 7:30 am one morning, I was taking my daughter to school and the moment I was outside of the garage of our building, I was rammed into by another car: a woman from our same floor and same building, was the driver...

We both got out of our cars and after analysing all of the damages, she came next to me, very upset about what had just happened, and asks: cheque or cash???

I had never experienced such a thing yet, while living here in Hong Kong. I was perplexed and said that I would like to find out an estimation before making any other decision...

We exchanged phone numbers, took a few photos, and said goodbye: each one going to their destination.

At around 9:30 am I got ahold of the Auto Repair Shop, and I sent the photos that I took via WhatsApp, asking for an appraisal...

After a little while, the woman writes to me, on WhatsApp, communicating that her mechanic after seeing the photos, would charge HK$ 2,000 to repair...

I respond to her, saying that I am still waiting for mine to give me his...

Before lunch, I receive a written evaluation from my Auto Repair on their stationary, (yes, we are still on WhatsApp), asking for: HK$ 3,000...

I send it on to the woman and in no time whatsoever, she asks me another time: cheque or cash???

I respond that a cheque would be fine...

She replys saying: I will leave it in your mailbox...

That night, around 8:00 pm, I return home, and passing by to pick up my mail, I find a box of Chocolates, a cheque and a note saying how sorry she is...in awe, I respond, thanking her...

I wanted to tell you this little story because the people that really know me, are aware of an Italian "living nightmare" that I have been living for the past 5 years: maybe more of a "farse" in my honest words...

In Naples, January 1st, 2009, a public bus completed destroyed my car, which I would like to add, was legally parked. It was so badly demolished that I had it taken to the Scrapyard...

Well, 5 years have gone by and I am still in a law-suit with the insurance company that refuses to pay the damages...

Just try to think of what I was feeling last Thursday evening when I saw the cheque and Chocolates in my mailbox: only 12 hours had gone by and everything had been resolved...

A sincere hello from Hong Kong...

This is beautiful story Heather:) So kind lady, so nice, so elegant. It seems that Asian culture is totally different from ours. Most of people are extremely kind. I am very happy that you live there:) Stay cool! ;-)

Evviva!
